5 Posing Tips For Your Photoshoot (Straight From the Pros)
Let me tell you a secret! Even Photographers are super awkward when they step in front of the camera — and you would think we would be used to with all the shoots we have. NO! It still takes like 100 photos to get one good one no matter who you are.
Getting engagement photos or having your wedding portraits made is a once in a lifetime experience. It is definitely not something you do everyday, so no one expects you to be a supermodel! HOWEVER there are little tips that will help you feel more comfortable and look like a rockstar even if you’re the most awkward person in the world. I had these running through my own head when I got my wedding portraits made. They are super helpful!
TAKE A DEEP BREATH — Just keep breathing and remember that you don’t have to be perfect at this. It is your photographer’s job to help you look great and feel great during your shoot so work with them and just keep breathing.
STRETCH OUT YOUR NECK — No one wants to see a double chin in their photos, and no — your photog will not be able to edit that out for you. To do this you want to push your face forward just a little bit and then tilt your chin down. You know those beautiful dip-kissing photos — this is when you really want to remember this tip! Don’t let your partner squish your face!! Push back against them slightly and elongate your neck just like I mentioned and BOOM — no double chin!
GET TO KNOW YOUR PHOTOG — This is the person who is going to be your personal paparazzi all day at your wedding. How awkward would that be if it was the first time you had ever met one another. Met up for drinks or coffee and just get to know each a little bit. This will make you feel more comfortable and help you photog know how to better capture you and your love.
PROMPTS ARE NOT COMMANDS — Photographers will give you direction but just know that they will not be mad if you take their direction and run with it. Think of what we say as more of a prompt. When you take “now lean your foreheads together” and you start touching one another’s faces or doing eskimo kisses and burst into uncontrollable laughter, that is WAY BETTER and it is more YOU! So just go with it and make it your own.
LEAN IN — This is especially important for those super cute laughing photos! Leaning away from the camera will make your head look tiny + your bottom half look huge. Leaning towards the camera will highlight your face (since your face is closer) and your bottom half will look normal again! Magic!
Hope that is helpful! Now go out and rock your photoshoot!
